Summer Reading

I've been looking over the last couple of entries that I wrote before the spring semester started up. I had been reading Smoke and Mirrors by author Neil Gaiman. I never got around to finishing it. School has this way of putting everything else in my life on hold. Last night I picked the book back up and I hope to complete it within a few days. I intend to do a lot of reading this summer, as I am not taking any classes. On the tentative list are:

• Smoke and Mirrors - Neil Gaiman (I'm halfway through this one.)
• Fast Food Nation - Eric Schlosser (I started this one also and set it aside at some point.)
• The Joy Luck Club - Amy Tan (I read her short story "Two Kinds" this past semester and really enjoyed it. The characters are the same in both works.)
• The Blind Assassin - Margaret Atwood (She has written a number of witty essays, among them, "Happy Endings.")
• Oryx and Crake - Margaret Atwood
• The Handmaid's Tale - Margaret Atwood
• The Da Vinci Code - Dan Brown (I've heard good things about this book.)
• The Blank Slate - Steven Pinker (He is a linguistics God, need I say more?)
• Chocolat - Joanne Harris (I enjoyed the film very much. I wonder how different the book is from it?)
• And Eternity - Piers Anthony (This is book #7 of The Incarnations of Immortality Series. I've been meaning to finish this series for a while.)
• Odes to Common Things - Pablo Neruda (He is a Chilean poet and each piece contained in these two collections is featured in the original Spanish and the translated English.)
• Odes to Opposites - Pablo Neruda (I almost forgot to mention that he was awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1971.)

There might be time for more, but I don't know, we'll see...
